Grain Today - October 8, 2020

Good morning,
 
We have seen an interesting turn in the markets in the last months. We have seen both barley and corn rally of their lows for the year as crop conditions in the US have changed with the start of their corn harvest. Thankfully the harvest this year has gone much better than last. I’m not sure how many guys would have kept going if they had another year like last. Luckily farmers are a determined group. We are hearing from many producers that soil moisture is fairly low. Such a change from last year. Drop us a line to let us know what soil conditions are like in your area.
               
We have seen bids for feed barley climb $25-$30/MT. Trading at $245 to $250 delivered Lethbridge. This is backing off to $4.30 in Eastern SK. We are seeing a bit of life in the MB barley market as well. Have traded barley for movement Dec/Jan in the Brandon area for $4.40 picked up. Oct/Nov prices are lower ($4.25). this is a big improvement from Late August at $3.80-.90 FOB Brandon.
 
We haven’t traded much feed wheat lately as there isn’t much grading feed this year (thank goodness for that). We have traded some of the CPS varieties into the feed market at decent money. $6.00 FOB farm Brandon area for Jan/Feb movement. Since then there has been a rally in the CBT which has made it harder to buy any wheat for feed. If you have any interest give us a call.
 
Flax seems to be a hot seller right now. We traded $16 fob farm out of Western SK this week. Not sure where the top is but if you have flax maybe adding some $16 values to your average won’t be a bad thing.
 
Lentils have also shown a bit of strength as well. Reds for $0.27 in the Shaunavon SK area.
 
We are not getting great bids for yellow peas. Seems $7 Eastern SK is where our buyers are stuck right now. We are seeing better bids as you move west.
 
                Right now we have buyers looking for:
               
                Feed barley – all 3 provinces
                Feed wheat – all 3 provinces
                Flax – all 3 provinces      
                Corn – MB and Eastern SK
                We do have demand for feed peas as well into MB.
