Good Day,
Summer 2025 is under way. At least I always consider June the beginning of summer. Here in MB we have had some very warm days in late May with June looking more seasonal. There seems to be a big range in moisture conditions even in MB. I just got off the phone with another producer in the Arborg/interlake area. He said 2/10ths of rain since the snow melted. Canola seeded for 2 weeks and only 10% has emerged with most of the rest sitting in dust. He didn’t mention flea beetles which is a good thing as it won’t take many to get what canola is above ground. We drove down to Altona on the weekend, and the crops seem to have come up very nicely along the route we took. I know producers in western SK would really like a rain and pretty soon it will get to need a rain. So far the weather doesn't seem to be the driving force in the markets yet. As I write this July canola is down $24/MT. Not much drought scare in that market move. The markets seem to be dominated with tariff issues from all directions with no thought of other forces that can drive markets. The brokers at Quality Grain have been mentioning that they are hearing many producers say things like it is so dry in our area that prices have to move up. As we have all known but sometimes forget the market “Doesn’t Care”. What you see out your window matters a bunch to you but will not move the market. That being said we have seen the overall trend in feed barley as up. If you have some still in the bins this might be a good time to reach out to one of our team and get some options. Here in MB we have several buyers looking. Last barley that we found bids for came to $253/Mt FOB Coulter MB. $5.45/bushel net after our brokerage. AB and SK bids seem to have strengthened again too. It does seem that there is still a fair bit of wheat in the bin that isn’t priced. If someone has low protein wheat it might pay to give us a call as our markets don’t have protein discounts. Just need good ,heavy, dry, no ergot wheat. And if you have quality issues such as moisture, bushel weight, heating we can help you find the right home as well. We still are coming up with pretty good bids on soybeans in MB and Eastern SK. We can’t go too far west as freight to US kills the premium. So let us know what you have and we will get you a price. June movement. With the CBT down today beans would be $12.00 in Brandon area for July movement. Just to give you an idea. If anyone is looking for inexpensive cattle feed we have access to barley pellets. This is the hulls and broken/fines from a plant in the US. The pellets have worked well in backgrounding rations or as a feed supplement. We could get them to your yard in Southern MB or Eastern SK for $165 to $175/MT depending on location. If you are interested we can get you feed tests so you would know what you are buying. That is it for this month. As always, give us a call if you have grain to market. We can kick tires very effectively and work closely with 45 different buyers. Even at 5 minutes a call that will take you a while. And if you get offers of “great” deal from one of your local buyers just send us a text or a call and we will let you know if it is or is not. That is it for today, till next month.
