The first day of summer brought us a light frost after the previous day's pounding rain. Weather has certainly played a part in this region, with a stretch of intensely hot and dry weather causing some cereal crops to start heading up when they are only six inches tall. It remains to be seen how the season will progress in my area and what kind of harvest will be the result now that the rain has been steady and the temps have dropped to something normal.
Demand is steady. Prices are lower than they've been but stable. There's steady demand for organic oats and organic gluten free oats. Spot demand for peas and milling wheat is reasonable and it's worth bringing product forward. Likewise there is some demand for organic milling barley farther south towards the border. I am looking for offers on larger lots of excellent conventional old crop milling wheat in southern Alberta. If you've got some good stuff sitting in a bin let me know. Over the summer I'll be in and out of communication with holidays and accumulated chores. I'll be paying attention to email/text and if I am not I will direct you to Reed or Jason by vacation responder. Cheers, A -- Quality Grain Marketing Est 2002 Marketer C/Text: 587-287-8447
