This is just a short note about specifically barley pricing. We have seen some prices for feed barley, at the close of this crop year, that I have never seen before. Starting this week, we have had bids of $8.00 picked up in Western MB and are seeing over $400/MT delivered to Lethbridge for immediate delivery. While new crop isn’t that strong it is still steamy ($6.50 -$7.00). If there ever was a year that you need to talk to your Broker regarding pricing this is it. We have very strong interest from feedlots in AB and Colonies in MB. As an example, in the past week, we have had calls from several Colonies in MB looking for 50,000 bushels each for off combine delivery. I am not saying that the best barley prices are going to be in the fall, but it has been our experience, here at Quality Grain, that when it is a dry year the best prices often happen earlier in the year than you would ever expect. Likely the best way for a producer to handle this is give one of the Brokers at Quality Grain a call and let them know what you hope to have. When it's in the bin and you have good average specs on the grain, let us know and we will shop it. We are also looking for that last load of barley you still might have sitting there.
